Condition

This work is in good condition, taking its age into account. The canvas is unlined and well-stretched. Fine craquelure is present throughout the composition, however, the paint layer is stable. The colors are vibrant. An area of light frame abrasion is present along the extreme lower left edge of the canvas, measuring two inches in length. A light varnish is visible under raking light. Under ultraviolet examination, a border of inpainting becomes apparent along each edge of the canvas, measuring between ½ and 1 inch in thickness. Additional small spots of inpainting become apparent in the background areas of the composition, as well as a one-inch line along the upper knee of the seated figure.
