Description

  • the plaque approximately 24.6cm., 9 5/8 in. x 34.5cm., 13 5/8 in., overall 41cm., 16 1/8 in. x 51.3cm., 20 1/4 in.
painted by Friedrich Sturm after the painting by Pompeo Batoni, the figure wearing blue velvet lying in a woodland grotto reading an open book supported by a skull, signed F. Sturm., impressed letter K, numerals 5 2 1, with a yellow velvet lined gilt-wood frame,

Condition

In generally good condition and appearance. There is some oxidisation to the surface of the plaque at the upper left section. Some very faint surface scratches to the plaque. Not examined out of frame.

The painting produced by Batoni in 1742 entered the Royal Saxon collections in the 1750s, and was lost in the Second World War.
