of squat globular form applied with a grooved strap handle and a short spout, on a spreading conical stepped foot, named for 'S/CAPIL:VEN:' within an angel's head cartouche,

Condition

In overall good appearance and condition. Some typical glaze loss and rims and some minor loss on the footrim. The body with crazing cracks.

S/CAPIL:VEN, or Capillus Veneris, syrup of True Maidenhair, Venus Hair. John Gerard, the 16th century Botanist and Herbalist wrote of it 'It consumeth and wasteth away the King's Evil and other hard swellings, and it maketh the haire of the head or beard to grow that is fallen and pulled off.'
