Condition

Overall very good condition. Very minor bubbles to the red anodised surface concentrated to the inner edges of the holes. They appear to be inherent in the production of the piece and are not visually distracting. A very minor chip to the bottom red anodised edge near the centre of the chair, 5 mm in length and reveals the surface below and is not visually distracting. Very minor scattered scuffs throughout the red anodised surface.

Catalogue Note

Israeli-born Ron Arad was born in 1951 and graduated from the Architectural Association in London in 1979. He proceeded to set up his own architecture and industrial design studio, forging himself an unparalleled creative identity and a notorious challenging attitude towards art, design and architecture. Refusing to be fully assimilated with either one of the disciplines, he stated:  `I do not need a passport to go from one to the other`. His `No discipline` exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris was held in 2009 and exemplifies the full panoply of his oeuvre ranging from crude re-appropriated to digitally manufactured elements.

With his ‘Void’ series chairs, Arad combines vacuum technology with a secret tinting process to create organic forms based on the traditional rocking chair. The result is a stunning genre-changing design that is a meeting of sculpture and design.
