Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. Faint stretcher bar impressions are visible on each canvas, a result of the artist's chosen medium intent. The irregularities to the surface, including the visible seams of the aluminum leaf and a few pinpoints of loss to the aluminum leaf, also appear inherent to the artist's working method and intent. Under raking light, a light, 1-inch diagonal abrasion is visible between the two oranges. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, a minor drip accretion is visible in upper center of the banana canvas but does not appear to be the result of restoration. Framed. Please also note this work has been requested by the Hendricks Estate and Artistic Director Trevor Schoonmaker for the upcoming Triennial exhibition Prospect.4: the Lotus in Spite of the Swamp (Prospect New Orleans), which takes place November 18, 2017 through February 25, 2018.

Catalogue Note

"'Since you are always around' was always one of the descriptions I heard to define self-portraiture. I was not fascinated with myself as much...However at times, I could not resist myself as a subject. I used my head as the subject for a test canvas to enhance my skills with gold leaf and iridescent paints."
