Catalogue Note

This portrait was part of an album depicting Mughal rulers, each of them identified in the cartouches above the portraits. The style points towards North India, early nineteenth century. The album was probably split up in France at an early date, as each folio bears the French Custom stamp on reverse.

Pages from the same album have been sold at Christie’s, London, 10 June 2015, lot 44 and 47 and 21 April 2016, lot 27.
