Volume 1 includes an autograph letter from Layard to Henry Gibbs, 2pp., 8vo, dated August 19th 1889, thanking him for sending a copy of the catalogue of his library at Aldenham, and commenting that "people should also make lists of their pictures - with photographs of them".
