Catalogue Note

This wine cistern is a larger reproduction of an original, Paul de Lamerie, 1719, now in the Minneapolis Insitute of Arts (Accession Number 61.56). The original was commissioned by John Leveson-Gower (1694-1754), 1st Earl Gower, a British Tory politician who was appointed to the Privy Council of George II.
