Condition

Overall, the condition of the marble is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The proper right little finger is reattached. The top of the flowers in the proper left hand are reattached. There is veining to the marble, consistent with the material, including at the proper left shoulder and the proper right cheekbone. There are a few small naturally occurring inclusions, including to the terrasse and the hair. Few very small chips to the edges of the drapery and to to the edges and corners of the terrasse.

Catalogue Note

Frédéric-Étienne Leroux debuted at the Salon in 1863 and obtained medals in 1866, 1867, 1870, and 1878. In addition, he received silver medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900. An accomplished and respected sculptor, he executed various commissions for public buildings in Paris. The present, attractive figure of a young girl with flowers exhibits Leroux's refined handling of marble.
