Catalogue Note

While not labeled, this dramatic sideboard possesses all of the hallmarks of the handiwork of the celebrated Annapolis cabinetmaker John Shaw.  Namely the form of the ovoid spade feet, molding profile and thickness of the top, drawer construction and inlay dimensions are all identical to the John Shaw labeled example in the collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art. For additional information on Shaw see William Voss Elder III and Lu Bartlett, John Shaw: Cabinetmaker of Annapolis, (Baltimore, MD: Baltimore Museum of Art, 1983).
