Catalogue Note

Printed funeral invitations were used in the 17th and 18th centuries to notify friends and family when a funeral of a loved one would take place, important socially and often used as admittance to a funeral for well-known figures.  The invitations were engraved, and feature traditional symbols of death and mourning, such as coffins, Father Time, crossbones and skeletons.
