  • approximately 187 by 130cm; 6ft. 1in., 4ft. 3in.
the inscription reading: 'farmayesh-e hazrat-e sadr a'zam 1311' (Order of His Excellency the Grand Minister, 1894/5)

the caramel ground piled in camel hair, with chequered abrash, and unusually woven with 'lazy' lines visible on the reverse 

Condition

Overall measurements: 130cm across the top, 130cm across the bottom, 185cm along left side, 187cm along right side Overall close evenly sheered pile approximately 1mm in depth, probably near original. Flexible handle, even weave. Upper end with trimmed warp fringes secured with blanket stitch, lower end similarly. Original sidecords. Rare camel hair field, with 'lazy' lines to the reverse. An exemplary late 19th century showpiece.

Catalogue Note

The Prime Minister of the time was Mirza 'Ali Asghar titled Atabak-e A'zam, Amin al-Sultan.   Grand Minister under three Qajar rulers, he was born in 1858, and assassinated on 21 Rajab 1325/31 August 1907.
