The complete portfolio, comprising 16 offset lithographs, 15 with hand colouring, and the hand-coloured cover, with text by Ralph Pomeroy; together with Shoe and Leg, circa 1955, each sheet with The Estate of Andy Warhol and the Authorized by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts inkstamps verso, each annotated in pencil verso, on wove paper, the lettering by Warhol's mother, Julia Warhola, each framed

Condition

The full sheets, the colours fresh, in good condition, the tips of the sheet corners often softened, each framed. (Stray ink is visible on several sheets: this is inherent to the production of the works and is not a condition defect). Minor imperfections to individual sheets are:Cover: occasional soft handling creases throughout, two yellow/brown surface accretions at right sheet edge and occasional traces elsewhere, two tiny tears at left sheet edge (measuring 3 and 4mm), pale paper toning.69: a soft crease across upper right corner, stray yellow ink (?) verso.71: a small pale accretion at the left sheet edge.73: (Stray ink at the lower left corner is inherent to production and not a condition defect.)74: two pale fox marks towards the centre of the left sheet edge, occasional soft handing creases.75: three minute fox marks at right.76: a pale band of discoloration at the lower sheet edge and a fox mark in the line of text.77: some stray ink and pale surface soiling at sheet edges.80: a soft handling crease lower left corner, very minor surface soiling at right and top edges.81: vertical creasing along upper half of left sheet edge, an associated nick at the left of the upper sheet edge, a cluster of fox marks at upper right sheet edge and some further verso.82: a small area of oxidation at right sheet edge at centre, a short soft crease at the top left tip of the sheet (stray ink at lower left sheet edge).83: a small area of light surface soiling at upper left sheet edge, a tiny brown accretion at lower edge of sheet.84: a soft diagonal crease and a very pale fox mark at lower right sheet corner.85: pale uneven paper toning, occasional soft handling creases, faint surface soiling in places towards sheet edges, a nick at lower sheet edge, a small brown stain below the shoe.

Feldman and Schellmann catalogue Shoe and Leg separately from the A la recherche du shoe perdu portfolio; however they write that Warhol created it at approximately the same date and that some portfolios include this work.  Warhol's original intention is not known.
