Description

  • William Garnett
  • 'Four Sided Dune, Death Valley, California - Sand Dune #2'
  • gelatin silver print
flush-mounted, signed and titled in pencil and with the photographer's credit and reproduction rights stamps on the reverse, 1954, printed later (Aerial Photographs, pl. 61)

Condition

This photograph, with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally excellent condition. The following are visible overall upon close examination in raking light: small deposits (possibly soiling or the photographer's original retouching); and a few small surface scratches, scuffs, and tiny impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion. None of the aforementioned issues are immediately apparent or detract in anyway from this striking aerial study. The print is trimmed to the image and flush-mounted to sturdy board. There is insignificant wear, attendant chipping, and small losses of emulsion along the edges and at the corners. The copyright stamp on the reverse is dated '1954' in pencil.
