Condition

This photogravure on tissue is in generally very good condition. It has very thin margins. Upon close examination, there is a faint 3/4-by-1/2-inch darker area along the upper edge of the image, likely from previous adhesive. The photogravure is mounted along the upper edge to a paper mount, which is age-darkened unevenly.

Catalogue Note

Of an early visit to The Intimate Gallery, Norman recalled, ‘One day I am the only visitor; Mr. Stieglitz shows me an issue of the loveliest periodical I have seen, Camera Work.  It is large; the text is beautifully printed on heavy paper.  On many of its pages, photographs in sepia tones are tipped in, printed on fine tissue’ (Encounters – A Memoir, p. 55).
