Condition

The photographs are in generally excellent condition. Scattered tiny deposits of original retouching are occasionally visible in raking light, as is faint age-appropriate silvering. The edges of some of the mounts are very slightly age-darkened, and sometimes faint soiling or deposits of indeterminate nature are visible on the front and/or reverse. The reverse of each mount is annotated 'David B. Lichtenstein, Jr.' in ink and '2007.218.1' in pencil. The plates, with dimensions and specific condition notes, are as follows: 1. 'Monolith, The Face of Half Dome' (11 1/8 by 8 1/4 in.): There is a minor abrasion to the surface of the mount, near the upper edge. 2. 'Merced River, Cliffs of Cathedral Rocks, Autumn' (7 3/8 by 9 1/8 in.) 3. 'Lower Yosemite Fall' (9 1/2 by 7 5/8 in.): There is a very thin, faint scratch near the center of the print, which may break the emulsion. 4. 'Trees and Snow' (11 1/8 by 8 3/4 in.): There is an abrasion to the surface of the mount, near the upper edge. 5. 'Branches in Snow' (7 by 5 1/2 in.): There is a small crease at the lower right corner of the print, which may break the emulsion. 6. 'El Capitan, Sunrise' (9 1/2 by 7 3/8 in.): There is a small soft crease which does not appear to break the emulsion near the lower left edge of the print. The surface of the mount is abraded in 2 places, and the upper edge is gently bumped. 7. 'Tenaya Creek, Spring Rain' (7 1/2 by 9 1/2 in.): There is a sharp crescent-shaped crease which does not appear to break the emulsion near the left edge of the print. 8. 'Water and Foam' (7 1/8 by 6 3/4 in.) 9. 'Winter Storm' (7 1/2 by 9 in.): In raking light, a very small impression and a barely discernible scuff are visible in upper portion of the image, in the sky area. The upper right corner is softly bumped. 10. 'Dogwood Blossoms' (9 1/4 by 6 3/8 in.) 11. 'Grass and Pool' (7 1/4 by 9 1/8 in.) 12. 'Nevada Fall, Rainbow' (9 5/8 by 7 3/8 in.): The lower left corner is softly bumped. There is a small abrasion in the upper portion of the mount. 13. 'Rushing Water, Merced River'(8 1/4 by 9 7/8 in.) 14. 'Bridalveil Fall' (11 1/4 by 7 3/4 in.) 15. 'Trees and Cliffs' (11 by 8 1/8 in.) 16. 'Half Dome, Thunder Cloud' (9 1/2 by 6 5/8 in.)
