Sotheby's New York, 6 October 1999, Sale 7348, Lot 259

Condition

This print is in generally very good condition. As is typical of Cartier-Bresson's later prints, scattered deposits of original retouching are visible in raking light. Upon very close inspection in raking light, the following are also visible: a diagonal 4-inch linear impression in the lower portion of the image; a crescent-shaped crease at the lower edge of the image; and a few, small linear impressions throughout. None of the above appear to break the emulsion, nor do they distract from the overall fine appearance of this print. In the margins there are scattered deposits of indeterminate nature and a few small creases or impressions. The lower margin edge is worn and chipped. On the reverse are 4 tape remnants, some surface abrasions, and a few scattered deposits of indeterminate nature.
