Condition

This impressive diptych of oversized prints is in generally very good to excellent condition. The following are visible upon close examination in high raking light: very faint scratches, impressions, and tiny matte deposits. None of the above are noticeable when viewing the prints in their framed presentation nor do they detract from the fine visual impact of this diptych. The upper left corner of 'Dressed' and lower left corner of 'Naked' are each sharply creased, which appears to break the emulsion. This likely occurred prior to or as a result of mounting, and the mounts are not affected. The creases are not visible when viewing the photographs in a framed presentation. Extending from the center left edge of 'Naked,' there is a thin crescent-shaped deposit of retouching that is visible only under very close examination. These photographs have undergone conservation, primarily to address surface soiling and foxing. A treatment report is available upon request from the department.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
