Catalogue Note

The composition is known in several versions of which the best was formerly in the collection of Félix Valdés in Bilbao.1 Though the present version was considered autograph in the early part of the twentieth century, and subsequently as a work by El Greco's son Jorge Manuel, it was catalogued by Wethey as a copy.
