Provenance

Private collection, Europe;
Anonymous sale, Zurich, Koller, 18 March 2008, lot 3037, where acquired by the present owner.

Condition

The uncradled panel is made up of two planks joined horizontally, and an addition to the lower margin, measuring less than 1 cm. in height, which has been repainted. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a rather milky, opaque varnish, on top of which are few, scattered spot retouchings: in areas along the left margin, in the door to the left, in the back and around the profile of the double-bass player, and in the left cheek and neck of the woman in white, singing. There is also some strengthening to the pattern of the draped curtain, left. In overall very good condition. Offered in a Dutch style dark wood frame with wave decoration in good condition with a few minor defects.
