Condition

The canvas has been relined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small areas of strengthening in the dark background around the silhouettes of the red carnation, lower left; the leaves, lower right; the large leaf, upper left; and in the background areas between the leaves, upper right. There is evidence of some wear in the background, but the details and colours of the flowers are well-preserved, and the painting is in overall good condition.
