Condition

The central board is stable and is securely attached to the panel. There is some cracking to the white pigment of the supporting board, in line with the grain of the wood, and where the board meets the edges of the frame. The edges of the central board are slightly uneven, thought to be inkeeping with the nature of the artist's materials, and there is a loss to the upper right vertical edge. There is a small vertical scuff in the upper right quadrant, just to the right of the incised vertical line. There are also some small flecks of loss to the light grey pigment in places which follow the artist's incised lines and are inkeeping with the artist's working method. There is some light surface dirt and studio detritus apparent to the central board, with one or two traces of light surface dirt also apparent to the white pigment. There is a small spot of staining to the white pigment in the lower right corner. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals an uneven varnish layer to the central board. There are some small spots of retouching apparent in the upper right quadrant and in the upper left corner of the central board. There are also one or two lines of retouching to the white pigment on the surrounding board. The work is presented in the artist's own varnished and painted wooden frame.
