Description

  • Adriaen van Utrecht
  • Birds, including ducks, parrots and a heron, in an extensive landscape
  • signed and dated lower right: Adriaen Van Uytrecht/fec 1650
  • oil on panel

Condition

The panel is uncradled and beveled on all four sides. There is an indistinct brand on the panel that appears to be that of the hands of Antwerp and tower. There is one horizontal panel join that is supported by three wood battens on the reverse. The join runs through the ducks at lower right through the lower portion of the heron at left. Overall there is very nice preservation of detail in the birds. The water and background areas are a bit thinner. Examination under UV reveals retouching all along aforementioned join. There are also scattered small retouches in the sky along the wood grain. Some retouching to the water at center. Other very small and judicious retouches here and there on birds and landscape. These have been well applied and the painting is presentable as is. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
