Condition

This work is in good overall condition. The ceramic is sound. There is some crazing to the thickest areas of dark pigment, notably in the hair around the base of the neck of the vase and in the area above the figure's proper left brow. There are some small stable losses in the painted decoration, notably along the edge of the artist's incisions where the pigment was thickest and did not adhere to the clay during the firing process. There is some further crazing in the clear top glaze of the face which is stable and inherent to the firing process. A small loss to the glazed surface is visible to the proper right cheek of the face, beside the nose, which may have been caused by an impurity in the clay and appears to have occurred during the firing process.
