the front cover etched with hanging lamps, menorahs and pillars enclosing a depiction of a man at prayer and titled in Hebrew "thou shalt meditate therein day and night" (Joshua 1:8), the back cover with further menorahs, set at the corners with filigree and turquoise-mounted bosses and marked in Hebrew "Bezalel Jerusalem", fitted with Torah Nevivim ve-Ketuvim and dedicated to Ita Yellin in gratitude for 30 years of service and dedication at the Ezrat Nashim shelter in Jerusalem and signed by ten members of staff.

Catalogue Note

Ita Yellin was the daughter of Y. M. Pines, the writer and early advocate of religious Zionism, and wife of the distinguished teacher, writer, scholar, and yishuv leader, David Yellin.  The Ezrat Nashim Shelter, established in 1895 for the mentally ill destitute in Jerusalem, became Israel's first psychiatric hospital at the turn of the century.
