Catalogue Note

The artist referred to this work as 'documenting the very moment, when [he] recognized the untruthfulness of [his] childhood environment. Growing up in an artificially created 'mining city' was an absurd, bizarre, and inscrutable experience'. Dark colour scheme, sharp contrasts, factory-like repetition and dizziness are characteristic of his early work.
