Sadie Coles HQ, London Acquired from the above by the present owner in 2006
Exh. Cat., Kunsthalle Zurich, Laura Owens, 2006, pp. 130-131 and 217, no. 174, illustrated in color and illustrated in color on the cover
“There isn’t much reworking (in my paintings)…I don’t really move stuff around very much and then cover it up completely. I think I worked that way very early on and I felt at some point I couldn’t ‘see’ the painting anymore because I was seeing through to the memory of what had been there. So I tried to just work simply so I could see what I had made, as if I was just an ordinatry viewer of the paintings with no inside information.” Laura Owens
This work is in very good condition overall. All affixed elements are present and stable on the surface. There is evidence of light wear and handling along all four edges and sides of the canvas. There is light unobtrusive soiling to the right edge of the overlap that is most likely from the time of execution and is only visible when viewed closely from the side. There is faint scattered surface scratching in the top left quadrant, which is only visible under raking light. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
