Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The surface is unlined and on the original stretcher. The edges of the canvas are fabric-taped. There is evidence of wear and handling at the edges including hairline craquelure at the pull margins with some minor and unobtrusive pinpoint spots of loss particularly at the pull margins. There are areas of fine, scattered craquelure throughout including two spots of radial craquelure in the lower right corner. There are a few pinpoint, unobtrusive accretions visible. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there are some minor areas in the white craquelure along the left center edge and in the right lower edge that appear to have benefited from light retouching. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"Today, when our aspirations have been reduced to a desperate attempt to escape from evil and times are out of joint, our obsessive, subterranean, and pictographic images are the expression of the neurosis which is our reality."
