Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although there are fewer yellow undertones visible in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The sheet is attached verso to the backing mount in several places, and there are artist's pinholes to all four corners. There is evidence of handling and creasing throughout, with some associated scuffing and minor tearing in places, which is in keeping with the artist's working process. Al collaged elements are stable. All other surface irregularities are likely to be original and in keeping with the artist's working process.

Catalogue Note

“Alchemy is not to make gold, the real alchemist is not interested in material things but in transubstantiation, in transforming the spirit. It’s a spiritual thing more than a material thing. An alchemist puts the phenomena of the world in another context… And then, my paintings have a certain value, so I’m an alchemist.”
