Catalogue Note

The first edition of this model appeared circa 1864, and there are parallels between this and the Lion bas relief decorating the Colonne de Juillet in the Place de la Bastille, Paris. The column commemorates the Revolution of 1830 which saw the fall of King Charles X and the commencement of the July Monarchy of King Louis-Philippe.
