Appartenant à la série des bouquinistes peinte en 1943, cette oeuvre montrant un curé de dos s’affirme comme un acte de résistance, les Français ayant pris l’habitude pendant cette période sombre de leur histoire de se refuser à affronter le regard de l’occupant.
