Description

  • watercolour and ink on paper - containing drawing
gouache heightened with gold on paper, 7 lines of text in nasta'liq script within 2 columns beneath the painting with a blank illuminated heading panel in between, reverse with 14 lines of text, outer margins filled with large scrolling plants and animals 

Condition

In good overall condition, colours vivid and gold bright, ink bold, as viewed.

The manuscript from which this painting originates was sold at Christie's, 23 October 2007, lot 153. The accompanying verses are are from the Divan of Hafiz, the great fourteenth-century Persian poet, and the scribe is Haydar ibn Ibrahim al-Husayni al-Katib.
