Catalogue Note

Harry Nixon (1886-1955) joined Doulton as an artist and decorator, circa 1900. He is best known for the 'HN' figure series, introduced in 1913, while he was still the head of the painting department. The present vase, since it does not bear a factory mark, is likely to be an independent work, perhaps undertaken whilst he was teaching part time at Burslem School of Art.
