  • bronze
with an ovoid body rising to a gently-flared mouth, supported on a spreading foot, the body decorated with two opposing ogival cartouches bearing Arabic inscriptions against a ring-punched ground, the neck incised and punched with a band of lotus spray and flaked by ruyi-loop handles

Condition

There are some very minor nicks and signs of wear to the surface, consistent with age. Overall the vase appears to be in good condition.

An example similar to the present and following lot, with Arabic inscriptions and incised lotus spray around the neck is illustrated in Sydney L. Moss, Emperor, Scholar, Artisan, Monk, London, 1984, no. 119. In the description of that vase, the inscriptions are translated as 'Glory to God' and 'Praise to God'.
