of oval section supported on a splayed foot, the neck flanked by a pair of tubular lug handles, decorated with bands of geometric diaper, deer, entwined dragons, abstract patterns and zigzag key-fret

The base appears to have been refitted. Surface with minor nicks and age-appropriate wear.

Catalogue Note

An almost identical vase, also dated Ming dynasty, 15th / 16th century is in the collection of the British Museum, accession number OA 1989.3-9.1. Of the five bands of decoration on that vase, four are the same as on the present lot.
