Catalogue Note

In April 1964 the venue of the Ricky-Tick Club in Windsor moved to a semi-derelict council-owned mansion, Clewer Mead on the River Thames. The club’s founders, John Mansfield and Phillip Haywood renovated the building on a shoe-string budget, painting the walls black, making light fittings out of ice-cream tins, and furniture out of packing cases from the Volkswagen depot in Slough.
