Catalogue Note

A UNIQUE ALBUM CONTAINING PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED OR UNRELEASED ORIGINAL OSCAR PETERSON COMPOSITIONS TOGETHER WITH FRESH NEW RENDITIONS OF SOME QUINTESSENTIAL PETERSON TRACKS. The specific combination of musicians on this recording will not record any of the same songs together ever again on any future recordings. This is the only issue of this album and it is limited to this single copy on vinyl, CD and USB.

Oscar Peterson (1925-2007) is one of jazz history’s greatest icons and The Oscar Peterson Legacy Quartet is a group made up of the three original members of Oscar Peterson’s final group (drummer Alvin Queen, bassist Dave Young and guitarist Ulf Wakenius) together with the celebrated Danish jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky whose ties to Oscar Peterson began in 1983 when he received the Oscar Peterson Award and resumed in the late 1990s when he was the appointed record producer for Oscar Peterson and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on the latter’s album This Is All I Ask released on the Verve label in 1998.

This album of 62 minutes is a swinging sparkling gem, packed with fabulous melodies, soaring improvisations and vibrant musical interaction. A most remarkable session truly in the spirit of Oscar Peterson but with a new sense of freedom.

The near-impossible task of gathering these four exceptionally busy musicians at the same time and place finally succeeded in October 2013 when Niels Lan Doky, Ulf Wakenius, Dave Young and Alvin Queen came together in The Standard Jazz Club (without audience) in Copenhagen for this session recorded over two days. The album is produced by Warner Music and was mastered in 2015.

The ten tracks comprise:
- four previously unrecorded and unreleased original Oscar Peterson compositions, kindly made available to the Oscar Peterson Legacy Quartet and Warner Music by the Oscar Peterson Estate
- five new versions of previously released original Oscar Peterson compositions
- one original Niels Lan Doky composition dedicated to and inspired by Oscar Peterson
