Catalogue Note

A similar Fürstenberg example is illustrated by Siegfried Ducret in Fürstenberger Porzellan, Band III, Figuren, p. 13, fig. 3, where the author also illustrates the engraving by Johann Elias Ridinger after which this figure is modelled. The engraving titled 'Auerochs im Zorn' was published in Augsburg in 1738 in the series 'Entwurff Einiger Thiere..'. Another variation of this example butting a tree-stump with its head is also illustrated ibid, p. 12, fig. 1 as well as in Weißes Gold aus Fürstenberg, Kulturgeschichte im Spiegel des Porzellans 1747-1830, catalogue of Fürstenberg porcelain in the Westfällisches Landesmuseum, p. 252, cat. no. 179. Another example was illustrated by Manfred Meinz and Beatrix Freifrau von Wolff Metternich in Die Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg, p. 56, fig. 35. An example modelled with the tree stump was offered at Sotheby's London, September 12, 2000, lot 102.
