Description

  • Heinrich Kühn
  • Hans im Gras
  • Gum bichromate print
brown-toned gum-bichromate print, framed, circa 1906 (One Hundred Photographs, p. 41)

Condition

This brown-toned gum-bichromate print on heavy wove paper is generally in very good to excellent condition. The print has a subtle undulating tonal quality inherent to the medium. A very small amount of emulsion has pooled around a raised area of paper fibers at the lower right under the child's shoe. As is frequently seen in Kühn's prints, the margins are unevenly trimmed, and the width of the margins varies somewhat. The wide margins show that the photographer has applied at least two coatings of emulsion. There are several graphite guide lines on the reverse. The reverse is lightly soiled and there is scattered foxing that does not affect the image.
