Condition
This early print, on semi-glossy, medium-weight paper, is in overall very good condition. Its condition issues primarily affecting the margins of the paper do not detract from this powerful image.
The photographer has written 'Spot before using' (underlined) in ink in the upper center margin of this print, and on the reverse of the print has made several notations: '1 of 2 prints made in 1969 in Bruce Davidson's darkroom', '67-7-679/8A' (numerical stamp, annotated in pencil) and 'Prison.' A pencil inscription, 'LYU-11x14-2.97-2047,' also appears on the reverse in an unidentified hand.
A few very soft handling creases can be seen in raking light occasionally across the print. A sharper crease at the extreme lower right margin does not break the emulsion and does not affect the image. Each of the corners are slightly bumped and creased. The upper left margin corner has a slight chip to the emulsion and attendant, radiating hard creases in the emulsion. There is a very faint discoloration in the lower right margin. A few stray marks and smudges appear on the reverse of the paper.
