Catalogue Note

The saints on this type of devotional rings seem to derive from small scale woodcuts of the late 15th century such as those included in the exhibition Voyager Au Moyen Age at the Musée de Cluny (op.cit.) For a comparable representation of Saint Christopher on an iconographic ring see inv. no. 689-1871 in the Victoria and Albert Museum and for the hatched chevrons on the shoulders no. 691-1871 in the same museum.
