Description

  • Michele Marieschi
  • Architectural fantasy with a staircase in a courtyard; Architectural fantasy with double height Gothic arches
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Provenance

C.A. Whitmore (according to a label on the reverse)

Condition

Both canvases have old linings with discoloured varnishes. There are no major damages visible and the pair appear to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some scattered strengthenings throughout the dark tones of the architecture and figures, all seem fairly cosmetic and carefully executed; they are not extensive. There is one old repaired damage to the top left corner of the canvas with the sunlit staircase. The pair are in overall good condition.
