finely carved in the form of a large shoot of bamboo attached to a gnarled stalk, a phoenix perched on an attendant spray grasping a sprig of lingzhi in its beak, the majestic bird detailed with a finely incised plumage and long curling tail feathers, all set on a rocky outcrop issuing further lingzhi and a cluster of orchid, the base of the rock inscribed with a four character Qianlong seal mark and the side of the shoot with a poetic inscription reading lanzhu sishichun danfeng yichaolai ('The orchid and bamboo spring in four seasons, the phoenix comes at dawn'), the translucent jade of a pale celadon colour heightened by occasional patches of russet skin, wood stand

Condition

The carving is in overall very good condition. There are some typical occasional nibbling to the edges, original to the carving. The actual colour is slightly less yellow compare to catalogue illustration.
