Description

  • Anthonis Mor
  • Portrait of Elizabeth of Valois (1545-1568), Queen of Spain
  • oil on panel, unframed

Condition

The cradled panel is flat and stable. There is a central paint join which runs from top edge down through center of figure and is only very slightly visible to naked eye. The detail in costume and headdress is very nicely preserved. The flesh tones of the face are slightly abraded and thin, as well as along her hairline. Under UV light: there is retouching along the join in face. Other retouches can be seen in the lower part of face, above left eye, on right side of nose, on nostrils and in hair. Costume looks mostly quite good with only some retouching to left sleeve and there is some retouching along upper edge.
