Condition

Canvas is relined. The paint layer is clean with only a slightly dirty varnish. No retouches whatsoever are visible, though the picture could benefit from a fresh varnish. In a carved gilt wood frame with red felt liner.

The print depicted of an extinct Canadian Dove is by Francois Nicolas Martinet, published 1765-83. The map depicted may be a detail from a map of the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding locations by Rigobert Bonne (1727–1795), one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century.
