Provenance

Private Collector, Munich;
Confiscated from the above on 18 November 1938;
Recovered by the Monuments Men and sent to the Munich Central Collecting Point (inv. 36293), on 23 July 1946;
Transferred to Wiesbaden on 25 May 1949 and restituted to the heirs of the private collector on 2 December 1949;
Thence by descent. 

Condition

Oil on panel with the rounded top. There is a panel crack that has been repaired with the addition of canvas along the right side of the verso. And additional panel crack is visible along the lower left side verso. The panel is convex from left to right. The surface is covered in a yellow'd dirty varnish. Losses at the lower left corner. A stable web of crack a lore over the entire surface. Varnish is unevenly applied and mottled. Under UV light, A few small areas of retouching are visible over the green fluorescing varnish especially along the aforementioned panel crack at left and above the head, to the right of the head and in the chest of the virgin.
