Centering a round diamond weighing 8.23 carats, framed by sapphires, further accented by baguette diamonds weighing approximately .20 carat, size 8½, with maker's mark; circa 1910.

Condition

In good condition with some light wear and nicking, primarily to the shank, commensurate with age. Nice detailing to the mounting. The uncertified diamonds are approximately H-J color, VS clarity. The sapphires display a medium to medium-deep violetish blue color and are slightly to moderately included. Maker's mark located on the inner shank. Accompanied by GIA report no. 2173441495 stating that the diamond is K, Faint Brown Color, VS1 clarity.

The history of this ring begins in Battle Creek, Michigan where William I. Fell created the Michigan Carton Company. Began at the behest of Fell's friend W.K. Kellogg of Kellogg Cereals, the company specialized in cardboard boxes. It was around this time that this ring was purchased and given to Mr. Fell's wife, Frances G. Fell. It was later given to their granddaughter, Diana Gilmore, matriarch of American auto racing and the first woman allowed into the pits at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
