Power of Pinks

Pink serves as more than a symbol of femininity and love when it comes to diamonds; the colour is hailed as one of the rarest to be found in diamonds. In fact, it is nothing short of a miracle for a diamond to be gifted with the alluring hue of pink by Mother Nature, and it is with this special gift that this heart-shaped Fancy Vivid Pink diamond, weighing 4.57 carats, earns itself a place in the hall of fame alongside other legendary pink diamonds. This heart-shaped diamond demonstrates how perfection is attainable with the subtle balance of hue and saturation, displaying an incredible shade and intensity of colour, akin to that of neon pink, which is inexplicably extraordinary even among the scarcity of diamonds that are graded ‘pink’.

‘Fancy Vivid’ is the highest grading GIA would assign to a coloured diamond. Consider that for every million carats of rough diamonds only one carat of polished pink diamond is produced, and that only approximately one in ten million polished pink diamonds can afford the ‘Fancy Vivid’ title, it becomes needless to explain how singular this heart-shaped specimen is, and that it could fetch any price that is demanded.

Despite pink diamonds being notoriously famous for having internal graining as part of it inherent structural manifest, this particular fancy vivid pink diamond is internally flawless, which further attests for its extreme rarity.

There are in total eight pink diamonds sold at auction which hold the distinction of being over a million US dollars a carat. The last example was a superb 8.41 carat fancy vivid purple-pink diamond, which Sotheby’s Hong Kong had the privilege of selling in October 2014. This pear -shape diamond mounted by Sotheby’s Diamonds holds the current world auction record for fancy vivid pink diamonds at 17.77 million US dollars.
