folio (280 x 210mm.), FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK, one double-page and 12 full-page coloured illustrations and other illustrations in the text by Walt Disney studios, original cloth-backed pictorial boards, DUST-JACKET, ownership inscription on verso of front free endpaper, corners bumped, dust-jacket spine slightly faded, dust-jacket spine slightly frayed at head and foot

Catalogue Note

A remarkable copy of Flight Lieutenant Roald Dahl's first book in an unrestored dust-jacket.

The Walt Disney film was abandoned amid concerns over the origin of the term "Gremlin". The OED notes the word as R.A.F. slang and cites a 1941 appearance within Charles Graves' The Thin Blue Line.
