Condition

Good and stable overall condition. Scuffing and abrasions to pigment on extremities of the image are clearly visible in catalog illustration. Together with a pronounced stain on the lower right corner of the image also visible in catalog illustration. Tiny losses to pigment in areas of green foliage also visible in catalog illustration. This lot is exhibited in a temporary frame.

Catalogue Note

An illustration from the first folio marking the beginning of the Devi Mahatmya section of the Markandeya Purana (Markandeya's recounting of the triumphs of the Great Goddess Devi) depicting the conversation between the older rishi Markandeya and the younger rishi Jaimini. The two sages seated in discussion within a wooded grove next to the river.
